Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, has recently passed a remark regarding the making of video games that "you need a tiny friction. "The biggest reason why this remark received such backlash from the gaming community is the past of Ubisoft.

Ubisoft has been struggling with abusiveness as well as toxicity in the office for quite some time now. Guillemot recently gave an interview to La Presse where he was asked a question about all the common misconducts that happen in the recreation marketplace. He said that producing a video game is a very difficult task. Challenges of the production phases put a great deal of stress on the office staff. New techniques should be adopted to help workers in learning everything about their tasks.

For better production, there should be some friction so everyone can acquire all the details of the projects. Although the game production career comes with many benefits, there are some difficulties as well. The interview was in the French language, so it is more of an assertion about the collaborative workspaces rather than a direct estimate. The past of Ubisoft is filled with some pretty unappealing cases of abuses in the workspace, so the word "friction" raised the eyebrows of everyone.

These cases of abuse were first registered in the year 2020, and these cases led to the resignation of some high-level administrators to cool off the situation. But this didn't please the workforce as they wanted more meaningful actions against those who were involved in these abuses. In July this year, a group of senior Ubisoft employees wrote an open letter stating that they have only got bogus claims, terms, and a soft corner for abusers in the company. This indicates the severity of the situation.

A month before this interview, some promises were made in a job interview, and Guillemot pushed on fulfilling those promises to take strict action against abusers and take have already taken some of the mentioned actions. This meant the end of the careers of some administrators at Ubisoft, especially when everyone was talking about it.

To give a reply to the sentiments of workers who criticized his remarks, he said that there is a zero-tolerance policy for abusive behavior and toxic behavior at Ubisoft or in any of its sub-sectors. In a small talk with PC gamer, Guillemot said that in businesses like videogame production, resourcefulness is crucial as workers can debate about any topic and give their views. This situation can cause tension between employees, so the company is using values, policies, and methods to deal with them.

After viewing the results of some recent employee surveys, both Guillemot and Ubisoft have said that the business is going in the right direction. This remark also received severe criticism from workers within Ubisoft as they say that there is no context to the remark, and the remark doesn't specify the situation at all. Experts have been working on the task for more than two years, and they have been succeeding so far.
