Kakao Games announced on Thursday that they have a publishing agreement with XLGAMES for the upcomming MMORPG game ArcheAge 2. The game is already in development and set to launch in 2024 according to the company.
ArchAge is an MMORPG that was developed by Korean developer Jake Song, the former developer of Lineage, and his development company XL Games. The game was released in Korea in 2013 and was described as a 'SandPark' game. The game is a large-scale MMORPG that gained popularity due to a high degree of freedom in the gameplay across the mystical land of Erenor. It remains beloved by it's fanbase after attaining 20 million cumulative registered users across 64 countries since it's release in 2013.
Since this announcement, ArcheAge has seen a significant rise in average concurrent players on steam. By about 700% in fact. Showing already an early excitement for the sequel. With over 100 developers working on the follow up to ArcheAge, a vast and seamless world enveloped in combat and action, XL Games CEO says they "aim to strengthen" their MMORPG lineup. In another staement from XL Games CEO, Jake Song, he added: “We are happy to join forces with Kakao Games with whom we’ve been working together for a long time. We hope to create a high quality game that remains faithful to the core elements that make MMORPGs fun — especially for all the ArcheAge players who have been waiting for a sequel.”
Kakao games plans on announcing a more detailed service plan regarding ArcheAge 2, and will reveal more information about the game in the future. I mean, we would hope that's the case anyways right? I am interested in hearing to what expanse this follow up game will take us to. Will it just be a slight update of the already popular game with some additions? Or will it take us into a whole new chapter of the ArcheAge world and story? Will they keep their current range of characters? Or will they introduce a whole new cast of characters?
One thing is for sure, since it is Kakao games, their "service plan" will almost for sure be a subscription based game model. Unless somehow they opt to go back to past models. There have been some who also see the game as being a pay to win game. Will they try to change this opinion by switching up their model? IDK. But for gamers that are fans of this title, I can say with utmost certainty, that is the proverbial ball that needs to drop.
