I got a spot interview at PAX West with Andy, a System Designer for Relic Entertainment who is currently working on Company of Heroes 3 (CoH3). His excitement for this project is contagious and as you will see it is for a very good reason. Depending on which gamer you talk to, CoH3 has been either long expected or long forgotten. This is likely due to it being a long time since Company of Heroes 2 was released and 2013 with its last DLC dropping in 2015. So, whether you’ve been waiting patiently, forgotten the title, or are new to gaming there is a pleasant surprise and it comes with the sounds of Shermans and Panzers exchanging fire.

Company of Heroes 3 shows us good things do come for those who wait. On launch CoH3 will have 4 playable factions, extended co-op and vs modes, new mission types, and new war front to explore. Andy was adamant to share how they pulled and used community for their multiplayer testing. The developer explained to me how their extended multiplayer mode(s) takes inspiration from the success of Total War: Warhammer, another successful title being published by Sega. CoH3 is stepping up their PvP modes increasing the size of the matches beyond 1v1. This expansion, allowing up to 4v4, creates dynamic and interesting WW2 style combat across larger maps. Players will also be excited to see this 4 player cap in the co-op mode. As a community based platform, it is exciting seeing extend multiplayer platforms on the games we love. At the end of the day more players means more friends and we love to see it! Relic and the devs on CoH3 are actively taking their own community members from discord for playtest. We know we will have players itching to try the game out as well. Go ahead and hop over to their discord, link at the bottom of the article, and tag up [CRSD] If you are looking for the latest info and a heartbeat into the project.

After getting home from PAX, my excitement for the title caused me to take a deeper dive and to my delight the developers have done a terrific job creating dev diaries and other content. I can’t help but drool and shed a light onto the new shader system they are using for vehicles and scenery. From the ground up the devs are also taking steps to allow customization and giving players hope for potential modding in the future. At the moment CoH3 is boasting a more customizable online game setup. This is a great feature PC gamers enjoy seeing as some of the best player experiences can come from additional customization. We are keeping our fingers crossed for full mod support down the road!

When is the release and where to get the game!? I got all of the details and links to make it easier for you guys and gals. Company of Heroes 3 will launch on November 17th, 2022.
